Guest Post :: Finish What You Start : Craft Business Tips from {Erika of Artful Rising}

Hello, A Little Etsy Lovers! My name is Erika and I am the creator of Artful Rising, where I encourage you to get-your-rear-in-gear to Create. Inspire. Change the World. Join the conversation today by signing up for the weekly Artful Rising Newsletter for tips, tutorials, and challenges.

 When I ran my last 5K I was very focused on just crossing the finish line -- with all of my body intact. I had undergone a surgery removing a tumor in my neck just a few months earlier and my bones and kidneys were still affected but I was determined to take charge of my life. Even if it meant landing in the ER the next day (I still think it was worth it).

Today, I find myself wanting to cross those finish lines every day and there are times when I wonder if I am really getting the point. I run around helping to lead the Blogging Business Artisans on etsy, trying to remember to post on Artful Rising and newsletter, raising my kids, and now working at our large church leading the women in different ministries. If I don't create a finish line then I feel like I am accomplishing nothing.

Create daily finish lines and reward yourself for what you have accomplished.

 It is so easy as a woman to get lost in the daily grind and running the race that we don't take time to recharge and acknowledge our greatness. My husband reminds me often that he could not do what I do and do it as well and you probably need to remind yourself of a similar message. My experience has been that when I recognize what I have done at the end of the day instead of focusing on what I did not get done then I stay inspired for my crafty projects and business at hand.

And even if all you do is sit back, drink a cup of hot chocolate, and daydream of the marathon finish line, be sure to say that what you have done is good. You can put those running shoes back on in the morning.

QUESTION: Do you give yourself a break?

This is exactly why I love to do lists :) Yes, it shows me what hasn't been done, but it also shows me what HAS!
And on the few days when I actually get everything on my list crossed off...it is an amazing feeling :)

I love that saying! I tend to focus on what I haven't got done and what still needs to be done so this is a great reminder to change my view and see what I have accomplished! Wonderful post Erika!

I'm like memories (hi edi) - I love to make lists! I spread out my list-making to months, something I learned from work. It lets me plan better. Yes, planning for down time is good too! Great post, erika {:-Deb

This is a great post Erika! You're right- we do need to shift focus from thinking about what we haven't done to what we have. I find that I agree with you- I'm most inspired when I have a sense of accomplishment under my belt.

Thank you, Ladies! I know I was inspired to pay attention to my lists from Edi and Deb (above). Lists help me keep track and monitor what is a priority and to not get bogged down by those tasks that are taking forever.
