Your vision needs to have legs.
If you spend all of your time brainstorming, tweaking your ideas, researching a topic and not doing anything with it (does that sound familiar?) then you are not actually getting the product out in front of your customers.
I know some will argue that you need to sit in front of the computer for hours and figure it out before putting something out there (we do need to figure it out first) but for those of us that over think this can be disastrous.
At some point you will have to act.
You will have to list your product, approach a retailer, buy the supplies, attempt a new technique, write that blog post, begin that novel, or apply for the craft show.
The unknown can be frightening but to not act on your dream is taking the wind out of your sails. One thing my brother’s accident has taught me is that life is too short to live in fear – so dream, think smart, and take action!
QUESTION: What vision are you working on right now?

I'm hoping to post my latest pattern today after months of stagnation in my store. You're so right, you need to keep the "product" rolling in as well as the ideas.
So inspiring! I hope your brother is doing better. You are right, it's time to take action!
I will be taking action today when I go to JoAnn's and pick up some more craft supplies. I love shopping for supplies!
Erika - you couldn't be more right! I have been working on my etsy shop (Hoopla Design Studio) since probably August of 2010. I said that I would be open by New Years (it seemed so far away) but as New Years got closer and closer, I kept thinking I wasn't ready. My listing wern't tweaked to perfection, my photos wernt good enough, I didn't know enough about SEO or Relevancy, yadda, yadda...but, then I thought - "You know, I could tweak for ever and ever, and never open or I could just get my wedding invitation designs out there and see what flies and what falls"
So, that's what I did. I made my first listings on January 2, 2012. I haven't had any sales yet, but, a good number of views and favorites. So, I'm glad I finally jumped in with both feet.
Erika, vision does need action to complete it. I made a list of jewelry designs to create and I'm working on it in batches. Got a few new items made and photographed. Now, need to get it listed.
Jamie, congrats on your new listings.
I think you're talking to me! I'm an over thinker but I'm going to act on my thoughts more this year and I'm already off to a better start than ever before!
you're so right. I say, if you never start, you won't get anywhere. Most of my projects have various steps, and I know I probably won't finish the same day. But that's ok with me. Some projects work better when you can get up from the table and return with a fresh look. {:-D
Keeping your brother in prayer.
Great post - You are so right - sometimes that 'over planning' will cause the 'plan' to never get done.
It is possible to overthink. For me, the possiblilities seem endless. I've made a notebook where I've written down some concrete items to make. I've started checking those off. That does feel good!
I hope your brother is recovering well.
Yes...that's sometimes the hardest part, the action! It takes bravado and there's a certain finality about it that can be scary. Once you put something out there, it's out there!
Loving her POV on the unknown. It's so true. Be open and brave :)
Great post Erika :) Your words are always so inspiring!!!
My goal this year is to make it a better/more profitable year than last year. I want to prove to myself that I can make this my full-time job!
